I forgot to add one important thing. After the nuts are roasted and peeled, you must heat some butter in a saucepan and lightly toss them in the pan with some salt. Now they are YUMMMM

I have experienced the same fireworks also when I were a kid. Dad did the same thing in the oven. First we used a Large friut tin on the stove top, but we ended up with more chestnuts on the ceiling than in the tin.
